The Columbus Division of Police (CPD) has jurisdiction in the University District. In the case of an emergency, call 911. For a non-emergency, call (614) 645-4545. Most of the University District is in the CPD's fourth precinct. The substation for the fourth precinct is at 248 East 11th Avenue, but it is not staffed on regular basis, except for shift changes. The CPD website contains public safety information, crime reports and contacts.

The Ohio State University Police Division has jurisdiction on the university campus and university-owned properties not on the campus. In the case of an emergency, call 911. For a non-emergency, call (614) 292-2121. The University Police website includes important information about a variety of public safety services, including the Buckeye Alert system, bicycle registration and student escort service.

Ohio State's Emergency Management and Fire Prevention office maintains a website with up-to-date information on weather-related emergencies, natural and man-made disasters, and public health issues.

The Community Crime Patrol (CCP), founded in the University District in 1990, is a non-profit organization that employs trained, part-time civilian patrollers who circulate on foot and on bicycles in the University District and several other urban Columbus neighborhoods. They carry walkie-talkies and report suspicious activities, burned out street lights, and code violations to the appropriate authorities. They are additional "eyes and ears" for Columbus Police. Founded in the University District in 1990, CCP receives funding from Ohio State and the City of Columbus. Contact CCP at (614) 247-1760.
