The University Area Safety Committee is composed of representatives of the Columbus Division of Police, The Ohio State University Police Division, Community Crime Patrol, Ohio State's Office of Student Life, Undergraduate Student Government, University Community Business Association, neighborhood civic associations and other stakeholders. The purposes of the committee are to promote communication and networking among public safety agencies and the public with the goal of sharing information and encouraging cooperation to prevent crime and enhance public safety in the University District. The committee has met regularly since 1995. The committee normally meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. in the first floor conference room of 33 West 11th Avenue. The co-chairs of the committee are Vernon Baisden, assistant vice president and director of university public safety, and Willie Young, senior director of Off-Campus Student Services. Both are employed by Ohio State. The committee's secretary is Steve Sterrett, community relations director of Campus Partners. Last updated April 30, 2009. |
